Haute Route in the Binntal: a wild journey between Switzerland and Italy

Discover a Haute Route where the diversity of landscapes and cultures offers you an extraordinary adventure. This unique traverse will take you across borders, immersing you first in the wild and authentic nature of the Binntal, before descending into Italy to explore Alpe Devero and savor the delicious cuisine of the Piedmont region.

Clothing:

  • Waterproof and breathable jacket (Goretex type) with hood
  • Breathable ski pants (Goretex type)
  • Warm down jacket
  • Fleece

  • One pair of ski socks
  • Beanie and neck gaiter

  • Warm and waterproof gloves

In your backpack:

  • 30/35L comfortable backpack designed for ski touring (ski and ice axe carry system)
  • Sunglasses (Category 4)
  • Ski goggles
  • High-protection sunscreen and lip balm
  • Thermos or water bottle (minimum 1 liter)
  • Survival blanket
  • Headlamp (charged)
  • Waterproof pouch with ID, CAS membership card if applicable, cash, insurance documents, and public transport pass
  • Day’s picnic and snacks (picnic can also be purchased at the refuge)
  • Personal first aid kit
  • For overnight in the hut: sleeping liner, thermal top and spare socks, cleansing wipes (as water is not always available in huts), small toiletry kit

Technical and rescue gear:

  • Skis with touring bindings, skins, ski crampons, and poles with large baskets for off-piste skiing
  • Ski touring boots
  • Avalanche transceiver (3 antennas minimum and marking function), shovel, and probe
  • Harness, crampons (with anti-snow plates), and ice axe

Your outing

Day 1 :

  • Elevation gain: +800m
  • Duration: approx. 3h

Start your adventure in the Binntal with an ascent to Mittlenberg from Binn.

Day 2 :

  • Elevation gain: +800m / Elevation loss: -1,300m

Cross over to Alpe Devero via the Gross Schinhorn, a must-see summit in the region.

Day 3 :

  • Elevation gain: +400m to +1,600m, depending on the variant

Explore the countless day hike possibilities in the Alpe Devero area. Choose between high peaks or gentler routes along the forest edges. The scenery is breathtaking, and the Italian hospitality and cuisine live up to their reputation.

Day 4 :

  • Elevation gain: +1,000m / Elevation loss: -600m

Traverse to the Margaroli Hut via Crampiolo, Btta de la Valle (2,574m), and Passo Bussin.

Day 5 :

  • Elevation gain: +1,100m / Elevation loss: -600m

Move through the stunning landscapes of the Ofenhorn and Blinnenhorn to reach the Claudio è Bruno Hut.

Day 6:

  • Elevation gain: +300m / Elevation loss: -1,500m

After a comfortable night at the Claudio è Bruno Hut, end this adventure with a long and beautiful descent from the Hohsandjoch, returning to Binn.
