Haute Route in the Queyras: a ski touring paradise

The Queyras massif is a true gem for ski touring enthusiasts, offering an ideal setting to explore its landscapes. This star-shaped trip, based in a comfortable and cozy guesthouse in Molines-en-Queyras or Saint-Véran, invites you to discover the diversity of this authentic region, with the flexibility to adapt the program each day based on conditions and your preferences.

From welcoming larch forests to peaks rising alongside the majestic Mont Viso, the Queyras feels tailor-made for ski touring.

Each day will offer new perspectives and unforgettable descents in stunning alpine scenery.

Clothing:

  • Waterproof and breathable jacket (Goretex type) with hood
  • Breathable ski pants (Goretex type)
  • Warm down jacket

In your backpack:

  • 30/35L comfortable backpack designed for ski touring (ski and ice axe carry system)
  • Sunglasses (Category 4)
  • Ski goggles
  • High-protection sunscreen and lip balm
  • Thermos or water bottle (minimum 1 liter)
  • Survival blanket
  • Headlamp (charged)
  • Waterproof pouch with ID, CAS membership card if applicable, cash, insurance documents, and public transport pass
  • Day’s picnic and snacks (picnic can also be purchased at the refuge)
  • Personal first aid kit
  • For overnight in the hut: sleeping liner, thermal top and spare socks, cleansing wipes (as water is not always available in huts), small toiletry kit

Technical and rescue gear:

  • Skis with touring bindings, skins, ski crampons, and poles with large baskets for off-piste skiing
  • Ski touring boots
  • Avalanche transceiver (3 antennas minimum and marking function), shovel, and probe
  • Harness, crampons (with anti-snow plates), and ice axe

Your outing

Day 1 :

  • Elevation gain: +900m

Transfer from Switzerland and the first ski tour to La Gardiole from Molines-en-Queyras.

Day 2 :

  • Elevation gain: +1100m

Ascent of Pic Cascavelier or Pic des Marcelettes, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 3 :

  • Elevation gain: +1200m

Climb to the Tête de Longet, with exhilarating descents and grand landscapes.

Day 4 :

  • Elevation gain: +1200m

Starting from Saint-Véran, one of the highest villages in Europe, ascend to Col du Longet, descend to the Chapelle de Clausis, and then climb Pic de Cornivier before a delightful return to Saint-Véran via Vallon de Clausis.

Day 5 :

  • Elevation gain: +1200m

Explore the Arvieux area, near the famous Col de l’Izoard. Ascend Pic des Chalanches from Arvieux, with exceptional views of the massif.

Day 6 :

  • Elevation gain: +600m

Before heading back, enjoy a final ascent to Col du Clot du Loup from Fongillarde, concluding the trip in style.
