Haute Route around Benevolo: an escape in the heart of the Aosta Valley

Immerse yourself in the heart of the Aosta Valley, within the majestic Gran Paradiso massif, and discover the Benevolo Refuge, nestled at an altitude of 2,285 meters. This enchanting place is a true paradise for ski touring enthusiasts. This star-shaped haute route allows you to enjoy beautiful descents with a light pack while exploring a variety of routes.

The friendly atmosphere of the refuge, combined with warm hospitality and authentic Italian cuisine, makes this adventure a must for all ski touring lovers.

Clothing:

  • Waterproof and breathable jacket (Goretex type) with hood
  • Breathable ski pants (Goretex type)
  • Warm down jacket

In your backpack:

  • 30/35L comfortable backpack designed for ski touring (ski and ice axe carry system)
  • Sunglasses (Category 4)
  • Ski goggles
  • High-protection sunscreen and lip balm
  • Thermos or water bottle (minimum 1 liter)
  • Survival blanket
  • Headlamp (charged)
  • Waterproof pouch with ID, CAS membership card if applicable, cash, insurance documents, and public transport pass
  • Day’s picnic and snacks (picnic can also be purchased at the refuge)
  • Personal first aid kit
  • For overnight in the hut: sleeping liner, thermal top and spare socks, cleansing wipes (as water is not always available in huts), small toiletry kit

Technical and rescue gear:

  • Skis with touring bindings, skins, ski crampons, and poles with large baskets for off-piste skiing
  • Ski touring boots
  • Avalanche transceiver (3 antennas minimum and marking function), shovel, and probe
  • Harness, crampons (with anti-snow plates), and ice axe

Your outing

Day 1 :

  • Duration: approx. 2h30

Departure from Switzerland and transfer to Rhêmes Notre Dame, in the heart of the Aosta Valley. Ascent to the Benevolo Refuge, where a warm welcome awaits.

Day 2 :

  • Elevation gain: +850m

Ascent towards the Col de Rhêmes Golette at 3112m, offering stunning panoramic views. Possibility to extend the ascent towards Bec de la Traversière, Pointe de la Golette, or Grand Parei, for a day rich in exploration.

Day 3 :

  • Elevation gain: +1,000m

A day dedicated to the ascent of Gran Vaudala (3272m), a varied and magnificent route.

Day 4 :

  • Elevation gain: +1,200m

To end the trip in style, ascend the Grande Traversière (3496m), an iconic peak offering an excellent ski touring adventure. Return to Martigny – Verbier in the afternoon, with plenty of memories.
