Alpine Climbing Discovery Course: Introduction and Practical Training

The discovery course we offer focuses on essential skills such as trip planning, map reading, rope handling, knot tying, belaying techniques, rock climbing, and the use of ice axes and crampons.

Our experienced mountain guides are here to accompany you and help you strengthen your autonomy in all the necessary steps to successfully complete a mountain climb.

Your outing

Day 1 :

• Welcom and course introduction at Champex
• Ascent to cabane Orny via the Breya chairlift and trail
• Introduction to equipment : learn to know and use your own hiking and rock climbing gear
• Climbing school : basic rock climbing techniques, knot tying, belaying, and rock protection
• Overnight at Orny

Day 2 :

• Ridge progression: learning rock climbing and belaying techniques, climbing on cliffs, and building anchors
• Trip planning: introduction to planning a mountain climb
• Overnight at Orny

Day 3 :

• Glacier progression : first steps in crampons, crampon technique, ice axe use, simple snow and ice anchors
• Crevasse rescue : Introduction to crevasse rescue techniques
• Ascent of Roc des Plines
• Overnight at Trient

Day 4 :

• Ascent of  Aiguilles du Tour : Ideal climb to practice glacier progression and ridge climbing
• Return to Champex and course conclusion

This program will be adapted by the guide based on mountain conditions and the participants’ levels and preferences.
