Day 1 : Mauvoisin – Chanrion Hut

Your adventure begins with a meeting with your guide and a gear check, followed by a hike starting at the Mauvoisin Dam (1,961m). This impressive dam, the second-largest of its kind in the world, spans 4.9 km and reaches a depth of 180 meters. As you hike along the right side of the lake, you’ll be surrounded by a stunning landscape of crystal-clear lakes and abundant flora and fauna. You’ll then reach the Col de Tsofeiret (2,642m) before descending to the Chanrion Hut (2,462m).

Day 2: Chanrion Hut – Vignettes Hut

We begin the day with a peaceful traverse through the Chanrion meadows, leaving the mid-mountain environment to gradually approach the Otemma Glacier. We will ascend the glacier for about 6 km to the Chermotane Pass at the eastern edge of Val de Bagnes. From there, it’s just an hour’s walk to the spectacular Vignettes Hut, perched at the base of the peak with the same name.

Day 3 : Vignettes Hut – Bertol Hut

  • Duration : 7h30

We return to the Chermotane Pass before climbing to the Col de l’Evêque (3,386m). A descent on the Upper Arolla Glacier brings us to Plan Bertol, a perfect spot for a well-deserved break. The famous climb to the Bertol Hut (3,311m) with its iconic ladders awaits you next. From the top, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn, which now feels tantalizingly close!

Day 4 : Bertol Hut – Schönbielhütte

  • Elevation gain : -91m / +487m / -1,187m / +174m
  • Duration : 8h

This is the crowning stage of the Haute Route, with the ascent of Tête Blanche (3,724m), revealing legendary surrounding peaks as you progress. The long descent through the Stockji Glacier immerses you in the heart of the impressive North Faces of the Dent d’Hérens and the Matterhorn. A short ascent leads to the Schönbielhütte, where a warm welcome awaits.

Day 5 : Schönbielhütte – Zermatt

  • Elevation loss : -1,089m
  • Duration : 3h30

After a good night’s rest, enjoy a hearty breakfast before descending the winding trail leading to Staffel, Z’Mutt, and eventually Zermatt. Why not make a gourmet stop at Zum See before re-entering civilization? It’s a must-stop on the way back!
