Champex to La Fouly traverse: at the sources of Val Ferret

Embark on a stunning multi-day traverse, a true escape with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. This varied journey combines glacier hiking with more technical sections on the beautiful granite of the Mont Blanc Massif.

The first days will allow you to explore a region well-known to alpinists before venturing into wilder and more remote areas between the Dolent and the Aiguille d’Argentière.

Throughout the itinerary, enjoy nights in the warm and welcoming huts of Orny, Trient, Saleinaz, and A Neuve.

Your outing

Day 1 :

  • Elevation gain: +700m
  • Duration: 2h30 / 4km

Start in Champex with a chairlift to La Breya, followed by a hike on a trail leading to the Orny Hut (2831m). After a good meal, you’ll familiarize yourself with the glacier gear and acclimatize.

Day 2 :

  • Elevation gain: +850m / Elevation loss: -450m
  • Duration: 5h30 / 8km

Ascend the Aiguilles du Tour (3541m), offering incredible views up to the summit of Mont Blanc. Return via the glacier and spend the night at the Trient Hut (3170m).

Day 3 :

  • Elevation gain: +500m / Elevation loss: -900m
  • Duration: 5h / 6.5km

Watch the sunrise from the summit of Pointe d’Orny (3271m), followed by breakfast at the hut. Then, climb to the Col des Plines and descend onto the Saleinaz Glacier, with a stop at the Bivouac of L’Envers des Dorées before heading up to the Saleinaz Hut (2691m).

More technical variant (depending on conditions, group size, and skill level): Ascend Tête Blanche and Petite Fourche (3512m), then traverse to the Saleinaz Hut via the Saleinaz Window.

Day 4 :

  • Elevation gain: +800m / Elevation loss: -760m
  • Duration: 5h30

Traverse the wild Three Cols: Planereuses, Crête Sèche, and Essettes. Arrive at the A Neuve Hut (2735m) for the final night in the mountains.

Day 5 :

  • Elevation gain: +800m / Elevation loss: -1900m
  • Duration: 8h

Ascend the Grande Lui (3508m), followed by a descent to the village of La Fouly, marking the end of this magnificent traverse.
